Leiden en Den Haag zijn op basis van hun pré-bid geselecteerd op de EuroScience shortlist als potentiële destinatie voor de grootste multidisciplinaire wetenschappelijke bijeenkomst van Europa: het ‘EuroScience Open Forum 2020’ (ESOF 2020). Samen met het Italiaanse Triëst in Italië zit Leiden in de race voor ESOF 2020 die plaatsvindt in juli van dat jaar. Het volledige bidbook dient 15 juni 2017 ingeleverd te worden.
