Many corporate executives, startup founders and big consultancies have been too optimistic about AI, which is why we're now seeing AI sliding from the top of the hype cycle down the 'Trough of Disillusionment.'
In the early days of AI scientists were also overly optimistic:
✖️ “I believe that at the end of the century, opinion will have altered so much that one will be able to speak of thinking machines without expecting to be contradicted” Alan Turing, 1950
✖️ “All stable processes we shall predict. All unstable processes we shall control.” John von Neumann, 1950
✖️"Within ten years a digital computer will discover and prove an important new mathematical theorem" Newell & Simon, 1958
